The following parties have been engaged by Nomura Islamic Asset Management Sdn Bhd (“NIAM”) to carry out various outsourced functions in relation to the management of unit trust funds.

Deutsche Trustees Malaysia Berhad (“DTMB”) – Fund Valuation and Fund Accounting Agency Functions

DTMB commenced business in May 2007 and is a trust company under the Trust Companies Act 1949, with its business address at Level 20, Menara IMC, 8 Jalan Sultan Ismail, 50250 Kuala Lumpur. DTMB is the appointed fund valuation and fund accounting agent for unit trust funds managed by NIAM.

Karvy Fintech (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (“Karvy”) – Registrar and Transfer Agency Functions

Karvy is the appointed registrar and transfer agent for the unit trust funds managed by NIAM. Karvy has been offering registrar and transfer agency services in Malaysia since 2016 and has its business address at Suite 16.01, Level 16 Menara IMC, 8 Jalan Sultan Ismail, Kuala Lumpur. As the appointed registrar and transfer agent, Karvy maintains the register of Unit Holders, records subscription, redemption, switching and transfer of units related transactions, amongst other matters.

Nomura Asset Management Malaysia Sdn Bhd (“NAMM”) – Back Office Functions

NAMM, a sister company to Nomura Islamic Asset Management Sdn Bhd, started its operations in December 2006.  NAMM has over 12 years’ experience in the asset management industry and provides various operational support to NIAM including liaising with various operational counterparties and assisting in the preparation of fund reports.

Shariah Advisors

Nomura Islamic Asset Management Sdn Bhd has appointed ZICO Shariah Advisory Services Sdn Bhd (“ZICO Shariah”) as Shariah Advisor for the unit trust funds it manages.   ZICO Shariah is a Shariah advisory service provider that offers a full suite of services ranging from Islamic finance to family matters. The team members of ZICO Shariah possess Shariah, finance, business and legal qualifications and over a decade of experience in structuring, drafting, advisory and consultation work in relation to Islamic finance.

ZICO Shariah is a Shariah advisory and audit firm licensed by the Securities Commission of Malaysia and approved by the Central Bank of Malaysia. Its Shariah advisory experience include:

  • Providing Shariah advisory services on a retainer basis to a local Unit Trust Management Company in relation to all its 56 Islamic unit trust funds with a total NAV of more than RM20 billion;
  • Providing Shariah and legal advice to a sovereign pension fundon an ongoing 3-year engagement to advise on the setting up and operationalization of a Shariah compliant retirement savings scheme which is the first in the world to be established by a sovereign pension fund;
  • Conducting Shariah review and audit for various Islamic financial institutions

Dr. Aida Othman (The designated persons responsible for Shariah matters relating to the Nomura i-Cash Fund)

Dr. Aida Othman is a Partner at Zaid Ibrahim & Co. She is also a Director with ZICO Shariah. Dr. Aida advises on Islamic banking and finance transactions and documentation; in particular, she has advised on Shariah compliance issues, structured Islamic products, Islamic financing documentation, sukuk issuance, takaful, regulatory framework for Islamic financial services, Islamic wealth management, Islamic private equity and unit trust funds.

Dr. Aida holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Comparative Law & Middle Eastern Studies from Harvard University, United States of America. She also obtained her Masters of Law from Cambridge University, United Kingdom and Bachelor of Laws (First Class Honours) and Bachelor of Islamic Law (Syariah) (First Class Honours) from International Islamic University, Malaysia.
